I got mad typing skills biznatch! I could be one helluva secretary!

Which means this probably hit retail stores last week. And you can buy it for cheaper than what it costs the retailers to get it through Diamond. Honestly, I don't understand Diamond's movie strategy. They always come out the week AFTER they hit every other venue, and the retailer cost is often higher than the cost other stores sell them for. I honestly wonder if Diamond doesn't buy them in bulk from Wal-Mart. This would explain why we get it a week later (they have to wait for Wal-Mart to stock it) and why retailer prices are so high, they have to recoup the consumer cost they paid for it at Wal-Mart. If this is not how they're doing it, then someone needs to take his head out of his ass and do it right! Get the damned movies into the specialty stores at least in the same week they hit the other chains and don't charge retailers so damned much money for them. There's no room for markup if you want to be competitive at all!

No, really, you can't. I mean you can buy the book and you can trace the pictures and maybe even do crude copies, but you can't really draw manga. You're just fooling yourself into thinking there's a possible career for you in manga and you can make millions and millions of dollars and you won't have to work down at the Orange Julius for the rest of your life just waiting for that old bastard to croak so you can become Assistant Crew Supervisor and convince your mom to let you live in her basement a little longer because your career is advancing now... really, it is... and then you start making plans to trip the old guy or poison his orange julius so it can happen faster because your mom keeps folding your underwear even though you tell her not to and you can just picture her standing there at the ironing board spending way too much time fondling the very fabric that will be in your most private of places and ... and ... You know, anti-abortionists should really get behind this comic. It's scary to me how many publishers are becoming completely comfortable with the four dollar price point for a standard-sized comic. It just seems too soon to be moving into this price categroy. Some of us have mortgages. I'm not knockign the publishers or the books, but it still feels pretty steep. Okay, maybe I am knocking some of them. Can't IDW still make a profit with pricing that is slightly more user friendly. Especially if they're gonna drop like 95% of their monthly books in the same week? Wait, this is Viper Comics. Daisy Kutter. Sorry, I dropped Dead(at)17 in the second mini for monetary reasons. It was okay... but I've heard great things about Daisy and am looking to keep sampling Viper's books. Their two new books look pretty good... and Daisy... well, I'm sorry, Daisy. I didn't give you a fair shake and you don't deserve the ire that I have reserved for IDW (SEVEN-FIFTY FOR A FORTY-EIGHT PAGE BOOK!!!!)... Please forgive me.

See, this is what I'm talking about. Now, I love Desperadoes. LOVE IT. Have all the Homage Comics books. And I'll get this (so I'm a hypocrite and supporting pricing tactics that I don't agree with, at least I'm doing the full disclosure thing), but this doesn't have to cost four bucks. Surely IDW pulls in enough dough on all those Steve Niles books to drop to at least $3.50 a book. Come on, throw us a bone. Of course, it does raise the interesting notion that for all our bitching about cover price, it rarely seems to benefit a book or hurt a book for it's price to drop or rise. In fact, some retailers have pointedly said they are skeptical of books that are priced what they consider too low (case in point: Beckett's aggressive $1.99 pricing stragety). And customers don't even seem to notice. The only exception are the obvious marketing prices (quarter, dime, fifty cents, etc.).

I don't care what Byrne says. I think he's full of crap. I think that this book is canceled and that's why he has agreed to pencil Superman on top of this and Blood of the Demon. He just doesn't want to admit it because the anemic sales on this book will only get worse. It's a shame this was such a disaster, considering it spun out of one of DC's top books. It's just such a shame that his run on JLA was such complete and utter crap. Vampires? Are you kidding me? It sucked and this series hasn't been much better. I thought this was an ongoing series. Maybe Diamond has it wrong. Wouldn't be the first time. They did the same thing with Top Cow and The Darkness (Volume 2). Or maybe Top Cow was hedging their bets in case it wasn't a hit. Me, I can't stand Tony Daniels' art. He did a Witchblade cover where it looked like she had a polio shortened arm. It was supposed to be foreshortened, but man did he blow that. All of his women are stilted and always posing with their asses sticking out while his men are always flexing. The worst of nineties Image-led art excess.... Okay, Rob Liefeld is the worst, but Daniel is giving him a run for his money. Far less cross-hatching and gritting of teeth, though.

I wonder if he'll ever actually catch up. Each time he seems to come close, he slips again. He's got a lot of ground to cover here, in all honesty, and keeps soliciting. Larsen laid the smack (beyotch!) down on McFarlane and he's President. Kirkman is paste if it comes down to it. Still, it's a good book, and worth the wait. Did they notice it was cheaper? A great tool to use to entice younger readers? I haven't figured out the retailers in this industry yet. Not sure really what they want. See, how many IDW books have we had so far? And all at four bucks a pop. A supporter of IDW is likely to starve this week to afford all this. Reminds me of when Tokyopop used to drop all their manga in one week. Man was that bad business. As someone who's been on the publishing side, I can understand why publishers do it, because it does cut their costs, but it also cuts their revenues as these smaller publishers are then competing against themselves. They have enough to compete against the big boys; they sure as hell don't need to cannibalize their own sales potential. And some forget that comics fans are very fickle. Each week, the gloss of the new makes them forget all about what shipped even a week ago. It's a delicate tightrope of cost and demand and I don't think most fans of IDW are demanding this much product this week. That's all I'm saying.

That said, these could be fun. I think that overall I was disappointed with the 2099 stories. They just lacked the magic of the originals. Spider-Man 2099's first several issues remain one of the best things to come out of the glut of the early to mid-'90s.

Can this book maintain its appeal now that the "reality show" gimmick has been played out? Who knows. I suspect it will still be good old-fashioned superhero team fun. It kind of had the attitude of a modern-day Legion of Super-Heroes in that there were so many different heroes with different powers and it was a bunch of overenthusiastic kids playing at superhero. Lots of potential in the overall universe of characters, that might be too limited now that he has a much smaller team.

Yay! Every week that brings me a Walking Dead comic is a good week. Man, I just loves me some good zombie story. Actually, this has become a pretty fascinating exploration of a post-Romero world teeming with the undead. Rife with rich characterization and the classic (better!) slow-moving zombies, there's something for everyone. And if it being black and white pisses you off that much, i'll tell you what. I got boxes and boxes of crayons at my house, so you mail 'em to me and I'll color 'em all up nice and pretty and send 'em back to you.

I don't remember this character? Is this some kind of Dollar General cheap knockoff, because these people had better watch out they don't get their pants sued off.
